Joel Jacob Tomson

Joel Jacob Tomson is a Biomedical Engineer and Researcher specializing in assistive technology and AI applications in medical imaging. He holds a Master’s in Biomedical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, where he earned the department’s highest CGPA and the Dr. Shivraj Nandan Sinha Award for Best Thesis in 2024. His Bachelor's degree was also in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Mumbai where he was awarded the Gold medal at his institute for scoring the highest CGPA.
Joel is currently part of Radboudumc’s Diagnostic Image Analysis Group (DIAG) in the Artificial Intelligence for Accessible Medical Imaging (AI4AI) project as a PhD researcher under the supervision of Henkjan Huisman and Anindo Saha, where he collaborates with industry partners to improve chest ultrasound systems for non-specialists, focusing on enhancing accessibility in rural regions. His expertise spans electronics, advanced data analysis, deep learning, and image processing, with strong skills in Python and MATLAB.
